Pros

There used to be great coworkers passionate about the product and fun to work with

Cons

All those coworkers have either been laid off or left on their own. The teams that were laid off made no business sense at all. Execs decided to layoff entire teams whose work were dearly needed to finish the product, and kept the rest. However, by keeping the rest, they had to have different roles, since their roles were taken over by Yopeso engineers. The company culture was the best one I've ever had, but it got totally ruined and it will never be the same again.

Pros

There are no pros to crunchyroll.

Cons

Extremely poor work-life balance. Frantic and panic culture of overwork & micromanagement. They struggle to retain any leadership, the churn rate is really high. Funimation leadership took the reins and is running the business into the ground. There is no path to career growth here, Don't expect to have time or even decent resources for self improvement and learning either. If you are one of the few people that are promoted, they won't announce it to anyone unless you are director or greater, they so obviously don't care about any of the engineers that put in so much hard work on Crunchyroll. They promote an antagonistic and attacking culture instead of open communication and collaboration. The pay is not competitive with the market, The benefits are terrible and they've cut most of the benefits they still post on jobs.

Pros

Free lunch, camaraderie within teams (shame its because we all know we're going to be laid of within 12 months - we can all read between the lines of what John Stankey is saying!)

Cons

You never know who you're working for from one minute to the next. VRV? Crunchyroll? Otter? WarnerMedia? AT&T? Not even upper management has a clue, let alone regular managers. Cross-team communication is a joke, everyone is doing their own thing. Morale is the worst out of any company i've worked for.

We appreciate you taking time to provide feedback about your experience working with us at Ellation. We would invite you to reach out directly to Tom, Tyler, or any of the Staff to discuss your sentiments directly. We want to be clear that there is NO plan for any lay off as you suggest, nor would we want to panic folks with this misinformation. Crunchyroll, VRV, and Rooster Teeth are brands that are squarely part of the WarnerMedia Entertainment family (and is also discussed in Tom’s Corner today on Pyxis). We know it has been a lot of change and evolution as we became part of WarnerMedia and can appreciate how it may feel different than the past.
