Pros

So much camaraderie, socializing, shared interests, etc. However since Ellation became prominent over Crunchyroll there wasn't the same vibe. It's one thing to love your work, but equally important to enjoy little moments with people around you. It's what give a workplace real soul.

Cons

Lots of uncertainty with where the company is going and proper strategy to achieve that. Too much ephemeral shifts cause delays and decisions based on questionable metrics. Culture of fear so people keep their heads down without questioning. Turnover rate is high and company sweeps departures under the rug.

Pros and Cons outlined here really depict a time of change in the company. This feedback is from a past employee and I can imagine many changes have taken place from time of employment to current. As an organization, we are very transparent about the change, and have truly embraced it in the past six months. Our attrition rate is below the average and healthy given our rate of growth. Turnover rate being high and swept under the rug is not accurate in my perspective. While turnover is a sensitive topic, and from an HR point of view, we are unable to give full disclosure due to the sensitivity of the topic. In addition, to promote transparency, we have been very open to allow for anonymous feedback, public feedback, open questions forum each week at All-Hands, and our CEO is open to discussing change as it occurs. There was a time in the past 6 months where we were really working to put the process in place whereby people could communicate and share, and I feel since we have done so. I am proud of our progress, and am happy that we are very open with communicating with our broader team. To the former employee, I would say thank you for the advise to management. The advise is constructive and we have been taking these measures to ensure improvement in communication and transparency. The evolution of this company in creating an authentic brand, bringing on strong leaders, and keeping communication open and honest is something that we are constantly trying to improve upon. As with any high growth environment, it is important to constantly reflect, and take the feedback seriously. As we scale, we are constantly assessing that we are keeping true to our mission and values.

Pros

Awesome technology and people, great overall process and organization. People care about what they do and things are being done with best practices in mind.

Cons

No cons. The atmosphere is nice and everyone is great overall. It is hard to think of any con, if any then it would be hard to be bored when working at Ellation.

Transparent communication is certainly our goal and we really want to tie our mission and values to this line of thinking. As we have scaled it is at times a challenge, but overall, if we are able to continue down this path, purpose and meaning will be apparent in how we do things and how we communicate across the organization. Thank you for the constructive feedback here! I also love that our team is challenged from a technology perspective. I can't rant and rave enough about how fulfilling it is even for myself, in a non-tech sector, to see how we debate and work through our technical challenges. It really adds to the unique aspect of our culture. This is also something we really want to preserve.

Gone really downhill

Pros

Free lunches and dinner 4 times a week. Probably should list that as a con as it's to keep people in the office working while in crunch. Competitive compensation. 401k matching. Stock options.

Cons

No work life balance. HR is catty and talks about employees negatively behind their backs. Desperately needs talent. High turnover rate. Had two people quit without notice recently. New employees often left with no guidance or onboarding. Way too many meetings and meetings about meetings. Meetings are just a complaint session where nothing gets resolved or accomplished. The project is missing technical leadership that would solve all these issues from tech to project management.
