Pros

It's a well known company and unlike the bad rep it is receiving in the states; it’s rather well respected on the whole here. There are also allot of opportunities for movement within departments and even between the countries to the regional to the global office. Training is rather prevalent and there are many courses available but as always it is dependent on individual managers to approve of the training. Having DHL on one's resume is not seen as a bad thing. Benefits are pretty generous in terms of leave and medical.

Cons

There is way too much paper work and emphasis on KPIs to fulfill and administer from the senior management. Instead of concentrating on revenue generation and directing resources in that direction, cost cutting is being used to trim departments and on the smaller items just because we are unable to hit an unrealistically set budget although DHL is still making a profit. Although there are less people, the same amount or even MORE paper work is thrown at the staff to fulfill. People spend so much time inputting and amending data in order to do up reports to show numbers. I personally do not see the point of having a huge file of papers full of graphs and numbers when as staff we do not know whether the management EVEN bothers to look at it on a monthly basis or just files it after looking at perhaps 5 out of a 100 pages of reports. Sometimes it seems to me that whenever the people at the global office have some smart idea to implement something, they don't realize the amount of work that has to be done by the countries just to provide them with what they wish to see.

Pros

Knowing that the weekend is near. :)

Cons

Inept executive leadership continues to make decisions without a sense of the future of the company. Leadership is not very capable of making far-reaching decisions without harming the company, employee morale, or shareholder confidence. No other place I've worked in 30+ years has had this continuous level of incompetence at the top. I thought I had worked in a few bad companies before, but this one took the cake. Lower-level management appears to be capable of making sound business decisions and setting direction but senior leadership changes direction frequently, without warning, and in what is a nonsensical reaction to situations resulting in negative outcomes. Publicly announcing major changes to the business then not following through on those announcements are devastating to morale.

Pros

The people that work at DHL are generally a great group of people.

Cons

Secrecy by Senior Management regarding strategy planning leaves many people sitting on the edge of their seat wondering if either their job will suddenly be "rationalized". Based on how DHL has operated over the past several years, they have spent quite a lot of money accomplishing almost nothing. Projects get 3/4 completed and then cancelled.
