Pros

Direct patient contact for medical/nursing/PA school

Cons

Where to start. At least 6 techs have left my facility in the past 6 months. Retention throughout Denver is abysmal because the work is too demanding for the $15 starting pay. There is not enough incentive to pick up shifts at other clinics and the differential for doing so isn't worth it. No 6 month review or pay increase. Want more money? Threaten to quit or apply to ARA. Average raise is maybe $0.50 for a year. They will reimburse you for CCHT exam, but the raise it comes with is a pitiful $0.50. That isn't even worth the hassle of becoming certified! Tuition reimbursement ONLY begins if you register for classes AFTER 90 days of employment. Also, tuition reimbursement ($3k a calendar year) is becoming way more restrictive, only applying for degree seeking student in business or nursing. Meaning your nursing pre-reqs aren't covered unless you are degree seeking and can prove it. RODs (your boss' boss) are no where to be seen.

Pros

The nurses, physicians and patient technicians helped to keep my mother alive for 9 years. For that, I am so grateful.

Cons

I went to work as an Admissions Specialist in one of DaVita's call centers. I would have never guessed in a million years that their corporate culture is so weird. They preach caring, patience and kindness; from what I saw it was complete lip service. The management (with one exception) is NOT kind, caring nor patient. Their corporate culture is cultish. The female managers are all the same -- the "stepford wives" comes to mind.

Pros

You'll be working with a lot of very smart people who care about the work they do. Because it's such a large company filled with these intelligent people, you'll gain a lot of experience and skills that you can carry with you throughout your career. On the other hand, it is definitely a stable job- I say that because I've noticed it is pretty difficult to get fired just for under-performance. They really try to retain their people. This is very specific to what team you're on, but there are many teams that are good about work/life balance and managers who don't want you working too late if possible or on weekends at all. Specific to the headquarters, the office location is awesome for commute and nearby dining. If you're looking for a job to impress the stereotypical baby-boomer parents, working at one of the business offices is for you.

Cons

Most pros and cons are heavily based on what team you are on, so I will try to stay general. It is a pretty bureaucratic system, despite the company trying to make it seem like the culture is "different" and "special". The pay is not as good as other healthcare companies, but they try to make it seem like the benefits make up for that, which is not really true. Promotion paths are slow unless you play the "game" of bureaucracy well or have a management structure that cares more about work product than your tenure.
