Pros

DataGrail strikes a great balance of all things I was hoping for in my job. - You can make a large impact on the product - There's a strong focus on company values and teamwork - The team is small but growing steadily, and very remote friendly - The product market is really huge and there's a lot of demand for the product - Excellent perks, especially for remote employees - The benefits + compensation aren't mediocre just because it's a startup, which I REALLY respect - Good focus on work life balance - Talented leaders from the top down who are inspiring as well as actively transparent We've got a long way to go before we're a well oiled machine serving the entire market effectively, but we've got a great start so far. I am glad I started when I did, as it feels like I got in on the ground floor of something special!

Cons

Until recently, we were a bit disorganized in engineering and it wasn't great. The company was really transparent about needing to build out a strong team to lead the engineering department, but it took a while to find the right people and it was rough while we were waiting. Fortunately, I think things we've hired the right people to fill in those gaps and we've already made massive strides towards a better, more effective software development org.

Pros

The leadership team at DataGrail is top-notch. They genuinely value everyone in the company's perspective, and they actively seek feedback that results in real impact across the business. They also care a lot about individual growth and will ensure that you have the proper opportunities and resources to take the next step in your career. The team is filled with kind, passionate people who are motivated to push the company and themselves forward. The culture across the company is really strong, and everyone has been intentional about maintaining it. Data privacy as an industry has seen an explosion in growth over the past few years, and DataGrail is helping to shape this new category of software as a result. It's been incredibly rewarding to work on a problem that has a net-positive impact on the future.

Cons

As with most growing companies, there's no shortage of things to build and often not enough people to build them. I anticipate this being addressed with recent hiring.

Pros

You get to work on meaningful projects that improve consumer privacy. The people are nice and very open and honest. Everyone can see and understand all areas of the business.

Cons

* Founders emphasizes the importance of getting enough sleep and staying mentally healthy yet engineers on my team worked on weekends to keep up with workload. * Onboarding is not structured and I had to constantly bother people to get access to tools I needed to do work (aws permissions, access to test data). * Someone else on my team (who joined after me) did not have all the same onboarding struggles I did, probably because he had worked with some teammates previously and they took him seriously while they blew me off. * Most technical problems are self-inflicted by the founders & their mountain of tech debt (ex: no CircleCI/BuildKite/Jenkins, lots of ignored or unwritten tests, admin dashboard full of bugs no one could figure out, crazypants data model) * Pay is not competitive, especially because everyone's salaries were cut at the beginning of the pandemic.
