Engineers love it

Pros

• Every single engineer I’ve met here is passionate, excited about the work and love to be there. That’s a strong plus. Work is never boring and there are always things to learn. I like being there as much as I did 18 months ago. • My manager is fantastic, cares about health and happiness. • Talented engineers. • Flat hierarchy. Great transparency. Everyone is approachable. Good remote culture in teams where appropriate.

Cons

• The only downside is that even though a work life balance is encouraged, supporter and recommended by management, everybody still works around the clock and the culture seems to head in that direction. It takes strong individual effort to change this for yourself but it is possible and people will support it, at least to my experience and in my team. • Salaries could be better.

Problematic racism!!

Pros

Cant think of much exept of the cons.

Cons

Working in a multi national environment is great, but I do not think it's for everyone in leadership at Datadog. I have encountered so much not-so subtle racism and discrimination. Your achievements and performance doesn't really matter if a hiring manager puts you in a box and label you as 'less' than others. Surprisingly, didny expect this to be the case in the Amsterdam office. It is spirit-crushing to find yourself having to record conversations and save screenshots all the time to try and convince and proof to higher management and HR that youre in the right or being miss treated. And even when you do come forward with proof(s), their focus is to protect themselves with lies and misinformation until they think, you have no legal stand to sue. The managers that people have complained about over and over got promoted to be higher managers and directors. Happy to share names to assist management to know which cases I am talking about.

Pros

The company invests heavily in developing individual sales skills. Training sessions are held very frequently, allowing reps to continuously sharpen their discovery and communication techniques. This environment can be a good fit for younger salespeople who want to grow quickly on a personal level. There is absolutely no gender discrimination in the workplace. That said, considerations for maternity or parental leave are virtually nonexistent—even for women.

Cons

The sales culture is extremely aggressive and "macho," resembling a high-pressure sports team environment. Almost everything is outbound, with virtually no inbound leads—sales are nearly 100% direct. There’s little to no understanding of the Japanese market, and no real go-to-market (GTM) strategy exists. While individual training is strong, it's not backed by any structured sales enablement or market-tailored strategy, putting all the burden on the rep. Each rep in Japan is allowed to freely choose 100 target accounts, but in reality, everyone swarms around the same "easy win" startups—many of which already use Datadog or have been approached countless times. The account list feels like slash-and-burn farming: overworked, short-sighted, and ultimately unsustainable. This makes it a tough environment for those in their 30s or going through life stage changes.

Thank you for taking the time to share your perspective. We're glad to hear you've found value in the training and development opportunities, and that your experience with our inclusive team culture has been positive. We appreciate your detailed feedback regarding our sales strategy and approach to the Japan market. Your insights on the challenges around outbound strategies, local market dynamics, and channel partnerships are particularly valuable as we continue to refine and localize our go-to-market approach. We want to clarify that Datadog does offer parental leave in Japan. However, we recognize there's room to improve awareness locally, and we'll work internally to address this. Thank you again for your candid feedback and your contributions to helping us grow in Japan.
