Pros

Great Company!!! Owners Actually care about the employee's ( Employee Appreciation Week Who Does That AWESOME!!! ) You are treated like a person and not an employee number. The dispatcher listens to us driver's never once has yelled or ordered me to do anything I can't get done safely. Has always helped me with my mistakes I've made. Thanks Kristie :)

Cons

Just because some people cry about working over 8 hours doesn't mean everyone is crying about it.. Some times extra hours are needed just to survive for some people. Before cutting overtime and hiring people to stop the Overtime ask for volunteers it just might be easier then you think. Just doesn't make since people being upset about working to much or people being upset about being sent home too early.. I need the work Has to be a happy Medium?

Pros

Working for other large LTL carriers (UPS Freight etc..) when I started at Dayton Freight over 2 years ago in Sales, the culture was very good and the focus was on the customer. The process to get things accomplished was very simplistic and everyone was willing to work together in order to be the "Dayton Difference" They monitor growth and capacity closely, which allows for service standards to be the best in the industry. Dayton Freight was by far the best company in LTL sales I have worked for...but (see cons)

Cons

With the old management slowly transitioning out, they are evolving into a "Corporate" mentality as they continue to hire outside people for management positions vs. keeping the culture consistent with what has made them successful and a industry leader over the past 30+ years. Adding processes to the Account Executive that brings no value to the business is counter productive (i.e. Hawkeye) and at the end of the day doesn't put freight on the truck and actually creates less time in front of the customer.

Pros

Good pay. Really good bonuses.

Cons

Absolutely no discussion on how to do things differently. Its either the way its always been done or nothing. Really crazy work/life mentality. The TM brags about coming in when his house was flooded and the day his dad died. Not a healthy way to approach work or life or set an example for your team. Absolutely no development. No time taken by senior management to develop or coach. No oversight or thought put into job function.
