Pros

Teamwork among colleagues is great. If you're starting out as a new nurse here, there is definitely a lot you can learn. Beyond that, there are no other pros.

Cons

Management is horribly disconnected with staff and is authoritarian in nature. Attrition rate is higher than average. The board focuses too much on investing in infrastructure and too little on their employees. Instead of offering greater work-life balance at a higher pay, this place works you like a dog. No manager has shown any regard toward the professional development of their employees. Pay is low and haggling a raise out of HR is almost pointless. This place is a terrible place to work!

Pros

If you love working in healthcare and are rewarded by the feeling of helping others, any healthcare job will be rewarding!!

Cons

I had a co worker that was threatening physical violence towards me ( I'm a totally disabled person trying to supplement my income.) When I brought these threats to the department head, I was told I was acting like a 12 yr old, and she would not listen to my fears! I was ordered out of her office! Later that day, two co workers were heard by myself and another person ( from a different department) making plans to "have me jumped" at night when I left work after dark. I worked at Detar and North W9omens Hospital My last pay period had @200 hours for a two week period. I didn't mind working..i LOVED my job and was very good at it! But having a very severe condition from a previous accident ment certain paralysis or death should I be attacked !! My immediate supervisor was "friends" with this woman outside of the hospital. I was treated unfairly with my concerns and for my own safety, felt that due to the seriousness of these threats and the total lack of support that I received from our supervisor/head of the department....I had no alternative but to resign that day with no advanced notice. I miss my job, but my physical safety comes first!!! As far as I know these women still work in this department.

Pros

Co-nurses are friendly and will try to offer help at times. It's good place to gain experience since it's very busy almost every shift.

Cons

Staffing is very bad. They burn out nurses. The nurse-patient ratio is not safe for the patients. Nurses do all the work from bathing, changing diapers, changing beds, collecting food trays and garbages. Nurse Assistants barely help with attending patients call bell even if primary nurse is still attending other patient.
