Pros

Great co workers, paid time off

Cons

Managers need training on how to be inspiring, they do not train employees and gossip about everyone, favoritism allows certain people to come in whenever they please, no career advancement, they are only concerned about making themselves look good on reports. Worst possible treatment of employees, they are always given the blame and guilted if a student doesn't want to attend their over priced school, cheap sales tactics, they talk about " devry cares" and show the least care towards employees. Leadership is non compliant and only look at the numbers you bring in and have very little interest in actual training. Worst atmosphere of any jobs I've worked for. Managers were the least trustworthy. They would make up stories by terminating or writing up employees that reported to them just to save their own jobs and hide their own incompetencies as a leader

Pros

Good benefits Good pay I personally had a great boss

Cons

The organization is going downhill fast. They are in a desperate fight to turn it around and keep saying "we've hit the bottom" but not sure how deep this pit goes. In the last year, my team has been passed to a different department 4 times. The organization of the organization (yeah i know it sounds weird) it's in a desperate state of looking busy to try and make it look like a needle is moving.

Pros

You will pick up some B2B sales experience here. THIS IS A SALES JOB. You are not counseling students. If you are fortunate enough to work within a "Metro" equipped with a Center/Campus that has his/her people's best interests at heart and will stick up for the little man, you may have a more positive experience with DeVry. I was fortunate enough to have that at the beginning of my year-long tenure with DeVry but layoffs and a shake up in upper management led to a ton of turnover. It seems that people here are promoted into their positions based on how easily they can be manipulated. Great place to learn about what you DON'T want from your next company.

Cons

When I first began working for DeVry, I had a lot of faith in the University. It was marketed to me as a great opportunity to help those students who were "different on purpose". I, like you are doing now, researched the pros and cons of this job before accepting the offer and decided that "everyone and every profession will have SOME negative reviews" - it would be better to pass my own judgement once I was in the position. Terrible work/life balance. 2 days 9-6, 2 days 11-8, doesn't sound bad to start but wait until management asks you to work more night shifts + last-minute Saturdays and tells you "you don't have to, but we don't want to give upper management any reason to NOT support your promotion". I gave this opportunity everything I had in an effort to better serve students and meet the TEACH Values but ultimately, I had to leave this environment because of its toxicity. It became hard to sleep at night. You are selling 75k programs to students (who ALL have to take out loans. In my year here there was ONE student that was able to pay out of pocket due to scholarships) and putting on New Student Orientations on a $150 budget. This University does NOT take care of its students to the best of its ability. Management under compliance is no longer able to promote you based on the number of students you bring in so there are tenured advisors making 100-150k (from back when they were paid a bonus for every student they brought in and received pay increases for exceeding student plan) and doing nothing while you work for your measley in comparison salary. You are expected to make 80-cold calls a day all of which are recorded (including your own personal calls - think HR) You are constantly chasing "the carrot" but never doing enough to obtain your goal.
