Pros

Challenging work. Large enough to offer opportunities for advancement. Great coworkers. Sense of professionalism, making things better. It is very motivating to know that you are supporting those who defend our nation. Flexible working hours with occasional opportunities for telework. Forwardthinking management interested in making things work. Tons of truly dedicated employees.

Cons

Likely to be impacted by overall austerity measures in DoD. Hiring is limited. Managing poor performers is always a challenge.

Sick/Annual leave is great. Flex time. TSP matching.

Cons

Unless you are at a certain position, you are not respected intellectually. I cannot stress that first point enough, if you're not a LIM or if someone is a grade higher people talk to you like you're a moron. You couldn't possibly know something they don't. Tough to get promoted unless you know the hiring officials. People promote friends/family or friends of friends. Very clique like atmosphere. Supervisors play favorites. Hard to get noticed unless you are in a certain 'group'. Good and hard work goes unoticed unless you are in said 'group' or supervisor favorite. Some employees are very lazy. From GS-4 to GS-13...i've seen people literally do nothing all day long.
