Pros

While there were some decent people at DISA in Montgomery, there were definite cliques. If you're ex military, you're likely all set as I was. Pay was decent, but not great. I left.

Cons

Credentials mean more than competence. Did approved training for "certifications" that didn't count. Will not pay for classes / books for certifications. Lied about needing certifications, ended up needing them. As an engineer, I designed many of the systems they used, but still needed some joke 3rd party certification. When asked why I didn't have any certifications, I'd half joke, "I know people who have certifications and I'm nothing like them". You have to have approval and go through so much BS to actually do work.

Pros

Challenging work solving our DoD's toughest IT problems. A lot of opportunity to work on different projects. Empowerment is stressed by leadership, so owning a task/project and making decisions is a huge plus. Lots of QOL benefits like telework, compressed schedule, exercise time and more.

Cons

Over missioned. DISA never says no, so mission grows while staff doesn't. Hiring is stalled. New management policy effectively made promotions and GS14+ vacancies non existent. Like any government organization, there's a lot of useless people that can't be fired.
