Pros

It's a government job like any other. The benefits are fantastic. In the down economy, government jobs are now becoming very competetive. Plus, once you're in, you have it made in regards to promotion possibilities and relocation.

Cons

Sometimes you're stuck working for someone who makes you wonder how they ever made it to the position in management.

Pros

Excellent chance for advancement. Variety of career fields one can enter into. Further training and educational opportunities are easily available.

Cons

Can be difficult to navigate the typical government bureaucracy. Travel (continental and overseas) can happen at any given time. Given the standard government rules, work hours can be a little inflexible.
