Pros

I was on a team that has a good boss. I had no issues with my manager. Not micromanaged at all.

Cons

Contractors are referred to as 'temps'. I was hired in as a contract category analyst only to find out that my manager did not even know I was coming until right before I arrived. There is a steep learning curve to systems and processes which I know I could have learned faster than others, but team members were not happy I was there. (I think they were threatened since there has been one merger already and another one about to occur.) I was told on my second day of employment that many were upset about contractors being hired in as category analysts as opposed to category assistants. As such, training was horrible and only one person actually took the time to train me on certain things. However, this person also resented that I was hired in as an analyst and I feel she offered minimal information. The other two assistants on my team were absolutely useless in helping with training....one helped while the main trainer/coworker was out on vacation but her training consisted of being copied on emails so I could use for future reference. Other folks in my department simply pretended I was not there. It was like pulling teeth to get work. Not a good working environment so I quit.

Pros

-Typical perks of a corporate office (401K Match, healthcare, etc). -Consolidated to 2 banners (Hannaford and Food Lion). Hannaford is a very strong chain, Food Lion is making good strides lately. -Nice people to work with

Cons

-Currently we are going through a merger with Ahold. One gets the feeling the top executives of Delhaize are setting themselves up for a golden parachute and will be out the door soon after it goes through. Leaves a poor taste in the mouths of many in the company. -Not exactly on the cutting edge of anything. Systems are archaic, IT is weak -Not a lot of fresh blood in the company, lots of people who have been there 30+ years -Put way too much emphasis on employees who have been through the Retail Management Training program. Some of these people are great, but many are continuously promoted, without ever having to prove themselves. This makes it much more difficult for other (many times more qualified associates) to move up.

Pros

Good people that worked in department. Lack of leadership skills in upper leadership level. The reason I left was because of this.

Cons

Bad leadership in lower levels. Put leaders in positions with no understanding of department. Lack of good people skills.
