If you negotiate nice salary when starting a job, it can be comfy place for few years
Pros
- Company always tries to modernize projects. - Company is currently pushing to use AI as much as possible to speed up any work. - Projects have usually well established processes. - People are nice to each other, I did not see anyone yell or literally use dirty psychological tricks on others to squeeze more performance out of them. - Opportunity to work from home - it is definitely not a "bad word" like in some other companies
Cons
- Company´s income is growing about 15% a year for last 20 years, but once you are in company, salaries are definitely lacking behind. - Company strongly orients on profits for shareholders, salaries are currently frozen, but there are always money to buy another companies (Descartes shares/value grows via internally improving its efficiency and value of its products, and buy buying smaller companies in the industry). - Very few benefits for corporate of this size, in Zilina, even small companies with 10-15 people have have comparable benefits (Descartes has here over 200 people, globaly 2500+). - Benefits like: paid leave?!?! - that is mandatory by law in Slovakia, that is not benefit!! Notebook for every employee - if I am not contractor (self employed) but regular employee (99% of people here) - that is also mandatory - it is working tool for me, they have to provide it!! - CEO will say any nonsence to keep shareholders locked in - like 'tariffs are good for us, it always strenghten us and we profit from it'. Yeah, right. In the very same week, he ordered saving 7% on salaries through layoffs. - Carrier growth only if you invest 5-7+ years into company, otherwise you are stuck at your position.
