Vibrant Company with Some Growing Pains

Pros

Dexis is a very vibrant, young and energetic company. The moniker of being "social Type A" personalities is fairly spot on, as this is a company for people who want to move up and work hard to get what they want in their careers. The CEO is very energetic, and has a great vision for the company. There are a lot of social events that allow for people to meet and greet each other, including coffee chats, pot lucks, and bi-weekly wine downs. These are great for helping staff to connect and build inter-company networks. The monthly (or semi-monthly) Thermometer readings on staff satisfaction are a helpful way to express a need for change, and to ultimately alert senior management of something that needs to be ameliorated.

Cons

The benefits package is said to be "competitive," but that is not quite true. It could be competitive with non profits in the industry, but is not consistent with other contractors/for profit development firms. For PTO to standalone, it is insufficient at just While the health benefits are good, and Dexis offsets a great deal of the employee cost, the vacation/PTO package leaves a great deal to be desired. It is vastly inadequate compared to other companies in this industry, and with no sick time, a very limited amount of PTO is given in place of accruing separate vacation and sick balances. With such a young staff, there is a culture of 24/7 work. While it may not be apparent now, that is an unsustainable model and will eventually lead to high rates of burnout over time. Staff need an opportunity to rest and recharge, and not be expected to be on call 24 hours a day. An adequate leave and sick package would help with that, especially as this driven staff matures. The company lacks some policies on important issues, which would lead to standard action across the company and projects. Corporate documents are not uniformly shared or understood by staff outside of the main office. Information is shared without context or information about why things would be relevant or important. Additionally, there is no standard remote/telework policy. While our primary client has staff that work remotely significant percentages of their time, at Dexis, there is no standard. For example, if staff are required to work on days the government is closed due to snow, they should also be permitted to work remotely at-will, or up to 100% of the time. Related to that, if Senior Management staff are able to work remotely on a long-term basis, similar arrangements could and should be available for staff at all levels where it would be appropriate. There should not be a double standard.

Pros

This is my update from my February 2015 review. Dexis maintains its 'Social Type A' workforce culture. You walk in here and you want to get stuff one, with some wit and humor in mix. It attracts and nurtures such people.

Cons

Rapid hiring has led to some wrong hires, e.g hiring folks who prefer a "homely feel," chatting (gossiping) vs getting stuff done. They don't fit clearly and they slam the place. We are here to advance our careers and Dexis is providing this platform thus far. However, some recent hiring has made me wonder whether Dexis is serious about getting the right kind of people.
