Realizing the Depth of Toxicity Only After Leaving

Pros

It is an interesting to grow and work with diamond.

Cons

Now that I’ve moved on and work for another company, I’ve come to realize that the environment was even more dysfunctional and toxic than it felt at the time. The CEO comes from a software background, and IMO he would have been better suited to leading an AI-focused venture rather than a diamond startup. Most of the people who actually had the relevant knowledge or long‑term vision either left or were pushed out, and inexperienced individuals are now being promoted into managerial roles. He brings in new managers from well-known companies, only to dismiss them shortly afterward which reinforces the instability. Personally, I am not so much drawn to the gem industry, and I’d just rather leaving the methane in the ground if it’s only being extracted for that purpose. What does still interest me, though, is the role the diamond could eventually play in technological world—especially in power electronics and semiconductor applications. That said, working with a material that is highly insulating and difficult to dope, fabricate, or integrate into devices poses significant challenges. The science is fascinating, but the practical hurdles seem enormous.

Pros

Exposure to multiple projects at once.

Cons

- Things fell apart the moment constant reshuffling began, and nothing ever felt complete. - Work kept pilling up while every bit of progress was erased, as if it never mattered. - My manager disappeared for days at a time, then returned with passive-aggressive attacks, making everything my fault. - The CEO made reckless decisions and immediately blamed the team when those choices failed, calling it strong leadership. - Upper leadership and HR offered zero real support unless it protected someone above you. - Growth was promised early, but unless you were part of the right circle, you remained trapped while destructive behavior around you went unchecked.
