Pros

There are some genuine, smart colleagues here I like to work with.

Cons

As a minority, I feel that I'm constantly judged, doubted, and experience passive aggressive behavior by management (indirect comments/ gestures that make you feel like you dont know what you're talking about).

Pros

* Great benefits/perks * Overall, smart people to work with * Interesting problems and scale

Cons

* Can not hire management worth a damn. Company has had three different heads of engineering (CTO, CTO, VP) that have lasted a year or less. Each departure was probably different, at least two were removed due to incompetence, * Can not fire bad talent (good lord there are some dinosaurs who contribute literally nothing to the company other than unneeded last minute opinions/blockers) * Easy to get frustrated because of the glacier like pace everything moves at

Thanks as always for the feedback. I agree that we have some really smart people here and that we are working on some challenging problems on a scale unmatched by few other organizations. It's one of the main reasons why talented people choose to join us. On the feedback regarding our Engineering leadership, there's of course not a lot I can say. I will share that some of what you say is just factually incorrect-- only one early leader was here for less than a year as point of record -- but to address the larger context, as many rocket-ship companies scale it's not uncommon for the needs of leaders and the needs of an organization to diverge over time. And it's healthy for both parties to recognize that in a transparent and positive way. More specifically, while we would never, ever talk about why any individual left, to even remotely suggest that leaders of that caliber left for anything close to incompetence is unkind, unfair, and untrue. I don't know what to do with an anonymous comment around "bad talent" without being able to evaluate the source and context. I think a more helpful approach -- which I'd absolutely encourage you to do -- is share your concerns directly with your manager or with me or someone else on the People team so we can help address them. We have a pretty high bar for performance at DO and if you feel something is blocking you from being successful please come to us directly and candidly so we can help.

No direction

Pros

Great people, easy to work with

Cons

No direction, constantly shifting focus, always reactionary chasing the "next" thing but can't commit to anything. Great place to go for career death, if you just want to collect a paycheck. Terrible place to go if you want to focus on innovating. Had to quit for my sanity
