Pros

The company's focus on providing a great employee experience through a remote work model is A+. The job benefits are amazing, but the people within the company and a clear direction and business plan really help in setting Digital Ocean ahead of any past employer I've been with. Management supports enabling the employees in their roles and give transparency to the dept strategies.

Cons

None that I've encountered so far.

Pros

pre-ipo options were pretty generous. benefits are really great including bonus PTO days and easily scheduled open PTO policy. the work is genuinely interesting if you're interested in the cloud infrastructure space. bonuses have been good.

Cons

the product vision needs some work but that does seem to be getting better. it's grown significantly but it doesn't have the standards needed for a company with an engineering team the size it has. my biggest complaint would be compensation. compensation is always a trailing metric, raises are mediocre at best even for top performers and promos. salary is fine but it's not top of market. refresh stock/promo stock is insignificant compared to initial grant. since comp is a trailing metric and raises/refreshes aren't generous it's a toss up because the benefits kindof make up for the comp issues but it's not great.

Pros

* Great pay and benefits, especially for those lucky enough have access to pre-IPO shares. * If you like writing go, this is the place for you. * Coworkers are all friendly, good people. * Management makes genuine efforts to continually improve. * Things overall tend to get better over time. * Super remote-friendly.

Cons

* Hard to feel motivated when opportunities to implement mildly interesting features are de-prioritized quarter-by-quarter in favor of admittedly more important and impactful initiatives. * Management pays lip service to work/life balance, but that's all it is. Be willing to sacrifice the life end of that spectrum and you will promote fast and get to work on interesting projects. * The team I am on has been understaffed for about two years now. The products we develop and support have too many users so we find ourselves thrashing endlessly between support, bug fixes, and feature development. * Nearly 100% of the company is full-time remote. I've been working here three years. The team I have been on that whole time has never had an offsite. Yes, blah blah blah pandemic. The entire team is vaccinated. In theory, we could conduct a team vote to see if everyone is comfortable with meeting in person. But the company isn't allowing it, primarily for cost-savings.
