Pros

The people, the people, the people! Discordians are smart, funny, friendly, kind, quirky, and welcoming, and come from interesting and varied backgrounds -- I love working with and getting to know the people here.

Cons

We are still developing as a company, and it has taken some work to move from "endless resources in a booming economy with low interest rates" vibes to "strategic prioritization in an economy where interest rates are high and money is more expensive" vibes, but we are making progress.

Pros

Lots of freebies but at the expense of layoffs.

Cons

Lots of layoffs that could have been prevented. Lots of waste as far as spending on many half baked ideas Lots of stealing going on, personal items and ideas. The leaders don’t lead and many can be very lazy because they are socially protected. Absolutely no defined career paths They do not put the important things in writing so you’ll never have legs to stand on.

It's time to re-evaluate job calibrations

Pros

Credit where credit is due. Discord has been the least "toxic" work environment in my career working in many different industries and organizations of differing sizes. On many occasions, I saw Discord abide by the values they preached. Workers are treated with respect, and the work/life balance is as good as a start up can get.

Cons

Discord's work culture that I listed as a pro becomes a disservice for early-career employees. There is a sense of "coddling" that produced a happy but naive workforce. Which leads to the more egregious issue at Discord, and how it was allowed to fester. Jobs titles are heavily under-calibrated and mismatched with the actual responsibilities. My suspicion is that this is done on purpose. It has to do with Discord's policy of compensating at the 85th percentile, which is very easy to do when your workforce is hired at 1 or sometimes 2 levels below their actual responsibilities. From speaking with other employees in different departments, this seems to be a systemic issue. There were heads of departments that did not hold senior titles for example...
