Pros

I recently joined Discord and had an awesome onboarding experience. The best part is using Discord at work! I had never used it before and love the features, communicating in gifs and ease of accessing information. I've been geeking out from the start and have so much fun learning all about the use cases. Excited for the future outlook of Discord and being part of building an incredible product for our community.

Cons

I'm still too new to see any cons. For more tenured employees, they've definitely gone through and seen a lot of change. But I'm hopeful for our future and what some of the new leaders will bring to the company.

Pros

Product is fun to use during and after work

Cons

Employee lifecycle peaks at the start of their journey through recruitment and onboarding. We bring amazing people in and expect them to jump in and make an impact. After that, leadership expects everything but gives nothing. There is an inherit disconnect from the founders that trickles down. Discord is obvious about its favoritism than I have seen at other tech companies, which causes confusion on strategy as our business attempts to scale. There has been a lack of investment and interest from leadership to develop our employees. From my experience on the People team, there have been numerous attempts to resolve this issue to no avail. We offer solutions, but the executives are not interested in scalable processes. Time and time again we see exceptions being made for promotion, retention, and departure with little to no context. Employees have caught on unfortunately and are vocally upset, which causes further turmoil having to defend a broken system. For the past 3 years, our leaders have been more focused on hiring their friends to build coalition and protection at the highest level. This contributes to the issue as they have additional voices to support their decisions. Expect to see more and more restructuring until the founders have control reminiscent of the early days.
