Horrible scheduling & lack of effective communication @ Terminal1 JFK You are at the mercy of management in reference to stability of scheduling. If management needs to change your shift schedule, they are allowed to do so freely. If the airport is busy which is understandable. Instead of asking of your availability to work late. Management post notices all around the terminal demanding mandatory stay despite the fact you fulfilled your 8 hour shift requirement under New York state law. Also, they tend to ask 30 minutes prior your shift ending. When first employed by D'nata I notified my future employer of my inability to change shifts and that I had family obligations and requirements to fulfill. A very important detail was omitted by my employer and that was there are seasonal shift changes. Meaning at the beginning of spring or at the end of summer you are required to change your shift schedule and it is mandatory and expected of you to comply. If you're unable to change your schedule due to family obligations you may want to strongly reconsider working for this organization due to the fact you'll find yourself constantly changing your hours from the morning schedule to the over night schedule without any thought or consideration. Originally I was employed for the morning shift . Now in order to continue my employment I am obligated to work late nights. Also, there is a lack of communication and a lack of respect from management to employee. Management fails to articulate effectively the requirements of your position and title and are disrespectful by nature lacking soft skills. Lastly, you are enrolled into a union but never offered the option whether or not you choose to sign up for membership. Within your first week you are automatically charged union fees from a union who never provides you their personal contact information, nothing in the mail is sent to you. Union fee's are extracted from your check. There is what is called a shop steward but when you voice an opinion in reference to the abusive nature of a supervisor. The shop steward tends to voice the opinion of management in defense their defense. ements defense I am aware it is difficult to keep individuals working these late overnight shifts because everyone tends to have the preference of working between the hours of 9am till 5pm. But realistically if you have a strong need for employees to work these over night shifts maybe a higher compensation should be considered in order to keep employees interested in working these hours.
