Pros

Like the people I work with. Our office is a home away from home. Middle management is great. They do have an open door policy.

Cons

They ask for advice but don't usually listen to what is being said. Management is not always right. Salary could be higher for what is asked of you to do

Disappointing path down from when I started

Pros

Flexible hours; good technology; friendly co-workers; great industry to work in; opportunity to learn new things and be challenged. Oh and a big screen tv...

Cons

People are not held accountable by management. Too many people who are under qualified or who under perform are allowed to thrive. Upper management does not know what they are doing because of mistakes in firings, releasing new products, strategy planning, and doing anything to keep a customer no matter how much it will cost to do so. Management on location also don't seem to know what they are doing. No opportunity for career advancement or raises, and they tend to abuse high performers.

Pros

The company is maturing and moving down a path driven by best practice based decision-making. This means that it is weaving continual improvement philosophies into its culture by adopting Agile across its Product and Development teams (heavy training last and this year) and is expanding the training to all other teams. As far as other changes, it is applying Lean UX principles and processes within Agile and has also adopted a continual delivery model for most of its apps. Likely further changes will entail the application of other management methods such as a variation of Kaizen/Lean Management principles. This is good direction for a company going through a process of change. It has produced significant improvements in the operation of most of the software development teams, unified them where they were not before, and begun to weave a creative, continual learning/validation culture into our DNA. It is the right culture to fertilize and grow.

Cons

Change is a definite con for some because it hasn't always produced the best results in its early stages. Dominion started as a company of companies where they purchased a range of companies over a series of years within the automotive market. This has caused some difficulty with cultural clashes between teams (of different corporate cultures), challenges on identifying a clear course for the organization, and misses on management decisions. Our change process of moving from a bunch of companies to an enterprise SAAS has been a big pain for some, but staying in one place would be worse since we would spell failure in the long run.

Thank you for your thoughtful review. I am delighted that you can see the forest through the trees and the improving results that our teams are delivering. As you mentioned, change is hard for some, but also as you have mentioned... we have come a long way since we were singular, insulated businesses. Thank you for sharing your views -- I only hope that you share them with your colleagues as well! If you have any further questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at jennifer.sanford@drivedominion.com.
