Good money, terrible environment

Pros

The money is good in the Hampton Roads area. The benefits are decent, and it's a stable job. If you're an engineer you'll advance nicely.

Cons

Confidentiality doesn't exist. People often go out of their way to make others appear lousy. Additionally, the vast majority of people are racist, extremely homophobic, and absolutely discriminatory towards anybody who isn't like them; this includes supervisors and managers. Supervision is lackluster, and cannot handle stress in the slightest. There's a significant problem in the promotion process, because the supervisors in the Hampton Roads area don't contain an ounce of positive leadership or motivational characteristics. Managers ignore issues, and need to retire and have younger, more adept and progressive candidates take their positions. Finally, there's zero appreciation for the lower tiered employees, especially the lineman and groundmen in construction who work a significant amount and always being on first response.

Pretty good work life balance, good co-workers, decent pay including housing stipend

Cons

HR can be annoying to deal with, difficult to move up in the organization, not a very young company

Pros

Benefits are great, Dominion population as a whole is friendly, Dominion cares about volunteer work and giving back to the community, discounts for an abundance of community related activities in which they are sponsors (The Nutcracker, Corporate 4-miler, etc.).

Cons

Started at Dominion without a college degree and I think it truly hurt me. It is extremely difficult to advance without a 'mentor' (someone in management in your back pocket). Life at Dominion resembles a government job in that they rarely discipline low performers (in fact, they usually promote them to simply move them out of a group), the benefits are very nice, and no one leaves (Dom Zombies). HR and senior leaders are currently pushing for diversity. Incredibly difficult to get to the interview stage if you do not fall into a minority category.
