Pros

The best reasons to work for Dow are the benefits that it offers. It is a very understanding company. They know that every engineer is different- some want families and more free time, some others are just ambitious and like to work and get to the top. Dow has created the flexibility for engineers to choose and decide on their path according to where they see themselves best fit. This is what I really like about the company. Also, Dow is an international company, therefore, you have the opportunity to potentially work abroad if that's what you want to do. The culture is great too. People at Dow are generally very friendly and easy going.

Cons

As an engineer starting at Dow, the pay is not the highest compared to what oil companies would pay. However, as long as performance is good, it is not difficult to earn raises. Other companies may offer a higher pay, but most likely are not willing to give raises as fast.

Pros

The people here are great. I've had the chance to work in multiple sites across the US and everyone I've worked with have been awesome. No competition. Everyone helps each other out. People will go out if their way to teach you and help you when you need it. Probably by far the best company to get technical experience. Very diverse range if chemical processes you can learn and get exposed to. Its comforting to see how much emphasis they put on safety. International presence is very strong (India, China, Middle East, Europe, South America) Employee development plan is by far the best. You get to develop a plan with your boss about where you want to be (location and/or job) and with time your boss will help you get there (through training, networking etc). Most people I've spoke to are on the path they planned on. Great company overall.

Cons

Pay is not comparable to oil companies. Once you reach upper management (supply chain, commercial etc) things may start to seem a little clustered and disorganized.

CBRE is not the answer

Pros

Dow has good retirement benefits, vacation, holidays, 401K

Cons

The company should not transfer its positions to contractors such as CBRE. CBRE works their people very hard and pays them very little. They will have 1 person do the work of 3 people. CBRE is equivalent to a glorified janitorial service. Also, the CBRE management is disorganized and they abuse their people, which in turn gives the customer (Dow) a bad name (as Dow has allowed contractors like CBRE to come in). Many people are wondering why Dow has allowed this to happen. In addition, Dow upper management should replace some of the Dow management that are not keeping a better eye on CBRE and what is really going on in Freeport and at the Houston Dow Center.
