Pros

40 hour weeks--very few people work more than 8 hours/day. The pay is pretty good--as I was job hunting trying to get out, I kept hearing that companies couldn't meet my salary requirements, and I was only asking for what I was currently making!

Cons

Favoritism and cronyism were rampant while I was there. They don't like outsiders. They seem to prefer people who enter the lab fresh out of grad school and stay there for their entire career over people who join mid-career, as I did. Ironically, they lose those young people due to the culture of insularity. People at all levels join and all excited about new opportunities, but they can't get an in to those opportunities and leave. I have also never seen such petty undermining and backstabbing on the way up the corporate ladder.

Pros

If you work over 40 hours you get comp time.

Cons

- If you screw up really bad, you most likely will get promoted. - New CEO cares more about appearance of building then profitability - New CEO is total snowflake that wants to save the world on employees dime - About 10% of staff carry the other 90% - IT is only about patriotism, if you were not friends with the CIO before Draper, you will never get promoted. - IT never has money now because of mistakes of upper management. No training or raises for some time now. - Parking fees increasing 1000% next year, some say to raise money.

Pros

Pay is competitive. I was a 6 month coop with only a few years of college under my belt but still made $22/hour. Funding is good for programs, especially those in Defense. Work environment in the summer is loose - can take fridays off / half day with enough hours mon - thur

Cons

Slow moving industry due to bureaucracy, but since the funding is there through military contracting it can help speed up the process. Feels very old school there, everything is done by the books. Means there is a lot of experience and knowledge to gain but pushing innovation is difficult
