Pros

The best reason to work for Dreamworks Animation is the chance to work on a great product. It's also great fun to develop and work with cool new technologies. The team members are lots of fun, too. They have good benefits, including 401K, medical, dental, etc., plus free food, DVDs, gifts and celebrations.

Cons

One of the worst downsides of being at DWA is poor management communication. Company news often comes out to the public before employees know anything about it. Management also tends to make promises to staff regarding career development, working conditions, equipment, etc. that are not honored. Another huge downside is the limited and slow advancement opportunities due to the companies rigid hierarchy. Management tends to value tenure over ability, experience and performance.

Pros

There is such a diversity of talents and cultures that offer something new to learn each day. There are artists that have never touched a computer before that are brilliant illustrators, sculptors and photographers; there are artists that have degrees in high level math, physics and computer science. What a splendid mixture of talents creating a synergy for sharing and collaboration. The environment is a creatively stimulated one that fosters and encourages the sharing of information and passion about the art form and the desire to tell stories. Free catered lunch is a huge plus as well as the generous benefits and bonus programs.

Cons

Lack of planning and failure to communicate causes the need to work long and extended hours. Most of the frustration comes from poor communication about deadlines and requirements needed to meet those deadlines. Many managers are relatively young and lack managerial training. Lack of a mentorship program to groom employees for management has negatively affected opportunities and planning for career growth.

Pros

Free lunches, nice campus, and international staff

Cons

Fails at diversity, lack of recognition for hard work, and technology department is plagued by cronyism. Unfortunately in 2009 this company still has problems staffing, and retaining, minorities and women. Senior Management needs to watch for possible age discrimination also cause way too many people under 35 are managers.
