Pros

Good technical expertise especially in engineering and science. Big company with many businesses and products offers diverse opportunities for career development national and international. Good benefits.

Cons

Very bureaucratic. Diverse thought not encouraged. Hierarchy and "who you know" dictate job advancement. Too slow to respond timely to market opportunities and customer needs. No consistent development programs for professionals. Basically non-existent program for early career professionals and very weak for more experienced ones. Salaries do not commensurate with responsibilities especially with increased workload as aging workforce retires. Chemical handling and chemical plants might not offer attractive job settings for new professionals especially women.

Pros

Well, it's a job. With unemployment on the rise, I'm grateful to be in a business that's actually doing well for DuPont. I have personally had great experiences with flexibility and work/life balance, but that may just be my manager's way of doing things.

Cons

There's a lot of negative press for DuPont in Delaware. Also, it's hard to climb the corporate ladder.

Pros

DuPont is a dynamic, well-established company that definitely offers challenging opportunities for those who are willing to step up to the plate and take them. DuPont employs some incredibly talented people -- especially in R&D -- and seems to be committed to "going where the growth is." In other words, the company seems to be committed to adapting to a changing global economy. The company also recognizes the need for work/life balance and offers flexibility in that regard.

Cons

In my function, there seems to be an old-school attitude that one is hired for life. Very little differentiation (at least in my function) between those who consistently work hard/contribute and those who do not. The company's great attitude about work/life balance is sometimes taken advantage of, apparently without much consequence.
