Pros

Duke Energy is a great company, with great benefits, pay and opportunities to advance and develop in your career for the company as a whole. Great job security.

Cons

-Brunswick Nuclear Plant has a management culture separate from the remainder of the company. -Brunswick Nuclear Plant management actively blocks employees from moving other parts of the business. -Engineering turnover is one of the highest in the nuclear industry. -Management conveys contradictory messages concerning maintaining the plant, equipment reliability, a strong nuclear safety culture; actions are different than words. -Engineering is consistently ignored by the decision makers in senior management, and blamed for equipment failures. Engineering management does little to defend engineers and the technical conscience engineering provides.

Pros

Relaxed atmosphere with minimal accountability and expectations

Cons

Leadership throughout the organization is not the best. Individuals are placed in roles without experience or knowledge. Most managers have never been trained to manage.

Pros

Good regional company president, area director and manager. They are committed to the customers and employees.

Cons

Top management is not committed to employees. Too much red tape to get through to get the job done quickly, efficiently and correctly. Too many layers of management cause important communications to drop into the black hole of , "I never got the memo." Benefits cut, pensions cut. Horrible HR (outsourced). Pay is stable but you are expected to work many more hours for the same pay. It's normal for salaried folks (who are not part of management) to work 50 + hours a week with no additional compensation. Employees have so much on their shoulders, and are under so much pressure that I expect many more will suddenly leave or retire. No transparency with changes that affect employee or retiree benefits.
