Pros

You will be compensated for hard work and long hours. There is vacation time and management is approachable. Cross training in other divisions allows for work diversity. Over the last 4 years staffing has gotten better which helps to meet client’s expectations and not overwhelm employees. Extra money can be made in overtime which is easy to obtain. The development of new business lines allows employees to gain more lab experience. It is a stable company that has weathered the economic downturn and continues to grow. I have been with the company for 10+ years. I won’t say the path I took, didn’t take some sacrifices on my part, but the gains have outweighed the sacrifice. The atmosphere here allows you to keep an open dialog with management. I am an example of how working hard, putting in extra hours, learning new things will set you apart from the rest. I am in a position where I can observe workers, management and senior officers in the company. In my years of observation, I can say that the company rewards those who work hard, are loyal to the company, and can demonstrate understanding of the tests they perform. The former employees commenting here are just that, former. Even more so, they are most likely the type of employee that will find fault with any company they work for. The majority of the lab staff that I have worked with has gone the extra mile to help someone grasp the concepts of their jobs. The managers that I have worked with have repeatedly given chances to people to correct their issues and who just didn’t listen. How many chances can you give someone who cannot be impartial and see how they may have contributed to the problem? Most proactive people realize that it is very easy to point out problems; coming up with solutions takes some insight, introspection and effort. In my opinion, the spitefulness demonstrated in this forum shows the unprofessionalism of those employees who were a part of the problem and does not reflect on EMSL as a whole. Give it a chance; make up your own mind- I did and I am glad that I did. I can honestly say that I do not regret the time I have spent and will spend at EMSL.

Cons

The same as every service industry it can/does require long hours and working odd weekend shifts to meet the demands of the industry and client’s. The medical benefits are not great and there are no formalized pay levels.
