This place should be acquired by a real company

Pros

This place constitutes a very good model to study nepotism should anybody need one. Since they always want more money, maybe they should market themselves as such and get benefits for the Frascas and their very extended facility.

Cons

No respect for employees. Low pay. Poor benefits. They employ any family member that needs a job irrespective of their qualification or knowledge (and they excel at not having much of either for whatever reason). The work can be hazardous at times, poor hoods, exposure to chemicals, construction dust. Working here makes you lose the self-respect, they make you feel worthless. They treat female employees inferior to males in the same position, unless, again, you are somehow related to the family. Somebody in the company had a good idea to make a suggestions box that would help improve the place. The management squashed the initiative very quickly, they did not like the feedback.

Pros

The salary & vacation time was enough to keep me there over 5 years.

Cons

Benefits were awful: health insurance was so expensive that I had to seek private policy elsewhere, 401k plan contributions was only minimally matched. Support for branch labs was minimal while criticism of branch managers was abundant. Loyal, hard working employees who had a mind to speak up were either dismissed or outright fired. The company fired me because I refused to relocate because my current branch manager did not like me. As a branch manager I saw many hourly workers receive horrid treatment for the amount of work done. I was expected to be on-call at all times of the day & night & missed multiple family gatherings for this company. Their non-compete agreement is incredibly stringent & keeps one shackled to the company. Workers are dealt with as if they are disposable commodities just so EMSL can continue to undercut every other competitor in the game. This is why EMSL is the Wal-mart of analytical labs.

An Unsafe and Unhappy Place to Work

Business Outlook

Pros

Some of the people I worked with were very nice.

Cons

Lax safety standards, zero safety training for new hires, frequent asbestos exposure, broken fume hoods still being used, reluctance to replace HEPA filters and other safety features, expired fire extinguishers, improper hazardous waste disposal, low morale, incompetent managers, motivation by threats, micro-managing by corporate, good employees are overworked while others do the minimum, low pay, yearly raises are 1-2% for the hardest workers.
