Pros

ESS contracts with the districts.

Cons

Subs have to be all give and no take, available at the drop of a hat and get ABSOLUTELY NO RESPECT at schools or from ESS itself. I have 2 bachelor's degrees which were "accepted", yet I still got a pay rate of about $12 per hour -even though with the "required" thirty minutes early arrival policy AND working through any planning periods as well a after school duties, it actually was closer to $10 an hour. I get it, the actual teachers don't make much, either. But when you call in someone to REPLACE a teacher at a moment's notice, you ought to compensate them from dropping a bomb on them.

Pros

You are able to work when you want, make your own schedule and take the time off you need to. Planner is usually set up by the teacher and teachers around you can he helpful. Choosing new schools and grades you work at is a bonus, never a dull moment in that respect. There is a simple background check, fingerprinting and you just need a high school diploma (so my BA didn’t matter). There was no formal interview.

Cons

It is low paying. $105 a day (that is peanuts). There is no accountability when it comes to the students (truly you cannot force them to even do their work or stay in their seats). The environment is hostile at times with behavioral problems and no assistance (this is not inner city schools). Teachers who do not leave enough work in the planners to keep students occupied (2 math problems for an hour is not sufficient) A lot of schools are so short handed that you will be seen as a savior but the kids will see you as a doormat.

Pros

Flexibility for Mom's not quite ready for full time but need a little extra money Allows me to be near my kids and keep up with their activities.

Cons

Pay could be much better considering you can make more babysitting than in a classroom of 20+ kids all day

We’re glad to hear how you’ve enjoyed your experience and the flexibility of working with us! We’re sorry you are not satisfied with the pay. We will continue to work with our partnering districts to influence rate increases when possible.
