Pros

It's a job and pays the bills. However the pros have become overshadowed by the cons.

Cons

The benifits along with treatment and appreciation of employees took a drastic decline when purchased by Eastman. We don't have the on site fitness center or medical staff that Kingsport enjoys. Instead we lost our fitness reimbursement and insurance went to crap! Management treats employees as if they are stupid and refuse to take advice from seasoned employees when making decisions on the jobs that we run daily. Expressing concerns will cause retaliation from above. Supervision could care less about the health, well being and general happiness of employees. We are expected to work horrible shift rotations and motivation to sacrifice our off time to help the company is nonexistent. Getting a answer from human resources is impossible and emails never get a response. Our plant once offered the best benefits and pay in our area but now Walmart appears to be a better place to work!

Pros

1. Collaborative Environment is excellent. 2. People at Kingsport/regional sites are excellent.

Cons

1. If you are recruited to work at Eastman, be prepared to be used for the following information with little reward: a. Connections of a focus industry if you come from that industry. b. Manager not to be involved in your skill set development. c. Little Career Advancement because your manager will be a fellow Eastman colleague when you start. The manager will be promoted as a result of your experience/knowledge. d. Constantly yelled out by my manager who had little experience in the industry compared to myself. 2. Overall Benefits are terrible. Health benefits are not good and minimal salary increases are given. 3. Corporate Credit Card is really a personal credit card given by the company which the company reimburses for approved expenses.

Pros

Good benefits, really responsible workforce,

Cons

When in doubt, do not work here. Leadership hires good ol’ boys (very few women ever make it to a “director” title) who never get held accountable for bad decisions. Instead, the workforce pays for those bad decisions by getting laid off or working on a team where half-3/4 of your team has been laid off and now you have to do 5 people’s jobs. There is little investment in new technology and innovation and leadership does not think strategically enough to trust their teams. Because of the lack of trust and constant threat of layoffs, culture is horrible. I know many people who have gotten seriously sick because of the stress of working at Eastman. The long-term business outlook is poor because the company cannot seem to think beyond their quarterly results. This prevents everyone from doing the work that would really matter and forces them to put out fires constantly. I don’t know of a department that isn’t like this. All in all, the cons far outweigh the benefits.
