Pros

The opportunity to grow at Eastman is almost limit-less. The company will help you to grow and advance in your career and there are many opportunities to work in different divisions to broaden your experiences. Many training opportunites to further education and knowledge. The benefits for medical care are exceptional, especially in today's world. Eastman values the communities around them as well and make many efforts to provide outreeach for the community. Eastman is also involved in several charities; I commend their values.

Cons

The company is quite large, especially at the Kingsport site. It takes some time to adjust to the site and semi-learn your way around.

Pros

Eastman people, from the bottom of the ladder to the top, can and do meet as equals to get the job done. It's an incredible feeling of empowerment where everyone's input is valued. The difference with other chemical company employers that I have experienced is the culture and the people. I consider the people in my immediate work group as some of my best friends.

Cons

I started out at Eastman, then in a period of seven years (for personal reasons) worked for two other chemical companies and then came back to be re-employed by Eastman. In coming back, I did accept a lower pay rate, but that was brought back in line in a few years. I don't think this (lower pay rate) is an issue now for new hires.

Pros

Competitive wages, great benefits, flexible schedule, lots of holidays, decent amount of paid vacation, unpaid vacation if we want it

Cons

(1) Monotonous work as a lab technician. Work is the same most days with different problems (2) Big company, feel like I am a cog in the big machine some days. Even though it takes 8-9 months to get a technician up to speed with my work, I feel semi-easily replaceable. (3) Do not feel valued or respected for the work I do. If I rated the value and respect I feel out of 10, it would be a 4-6. I would prefer 8-10. (4) To me, the Eastman culture calls you to work constantly and productively; but there is little incentive to go above and beyond the call of duty. I feel restrained and demotivated from the work energy I've had in my teens.
