Pros

Sales engineers are not really treated as engineers just paper pushers. I guess one advantage is that they are pretty clueless about the overall market and industry contacts so they have no idea what sales really should be doing.

Cons

Sales incentives are non existent. Instead of industry average commission of 0.25-0.5% of gross PO value, they prefer 0.0001% which is a joke. The exec team up in PA also treats sales team like sh** also toxic culture at high levels in poor treatment and respect for women

A decent place to work for most

Pros

Good pay and benefits. A lot of good coworkers who are willing to go the extra mile to help you and the company. Turnover is low in many departments. The good old boys club of the past is mostly gone in the office. Some employees are able to work remote.

Cons

Conservative corporate culture; feels a bit old fashioned and overly cautious at times. Some departments are understaffed and overworked, while others are light on work. Location of corporate office/commuting distance is a negative for some. Industry is subject to boom/bust cycles (i.e. periods of hiring and mandatory overtime are followed by periods of layoffs and reduced work load.) Upward and lateral mobility can be limited. Customers can be demanding and work can be stressful at times.

Pros

Some of the people are great- they will really help you develop as an engineer. That said, it really doesn't take much to be a "good" engineer in management's eyes- just get your work done (right or wrong, complete or half-hearted) and move on to the next item

Cons

It's a relatively small company. Promotions are limited. There seems to be a lot of friction between the middle-managers, with very little oversight from the upper management. It seems really hard to get fired for doing a bad job- this results in bad employees and managers remaining in their positions for a long time.
