Pros

Ask just about anyone who works at Eckerd why they do what they do. Their answer should be: “We do it for the kids.” Everything we do, from the programs we offer to building relationships with families, is done for the kids. We’re fully and wholly committed to seeing our mission out to completion and helping as many kids as we possibly can. I appreciate being a part of that mission.

Cons

Not a job for anyone not completely committed to the company mission. It’s demanding both physically and mentally.

Pros

As a youth counselor I’m able to jump right into the weeds and work directly with the kids. As the job title implies it was my job to counsel and guide these kids as best as I could. As long as I stuck with the guidelines of the program, I was free to interact with the kids as I saw fit. It’s straightforward for the most part despite the more challenging aspects of dealing with immature personalities. Overall, I enjoy what I do.

Cons

You’re basically on call all of the time. It’s difficult to find any down time to take a break and unwind.

I’ve learned a lot since starting at Eckerd. My coworkers are an incredible support system, and I’m incredibly grateful for all their help and guidance.

Cons

Communication from senior management could be better. I think there’s a lot of misunderstandings between the counselors and the people calling the shots.
