Pros

While reading these reviews on the website dating back all the way from 2014, I see a huge and drastic change in the company growth and atmosphere. Although, I admit I had not been working at Edaptive Inc., during those years, working there now I could not see that same company in the description on the website. Reading the reviews at first, I wasn't sure if I was going to write a review but I wanted to share my personal experience. Working in two other large companies, the work at Edaptive has been some of the most intriguing work I have experienced so far. With fifteen years of experience the benefits, the company building activities such as the seasonal parties, birthday celebrations and educational trainings have by far surpassed the other experiences I have had at other companies. It is clear the owners care about the positive work environment and care about as much as the total outcome of the projects we work on. There are always weekly meetings with the CTO over projects and their is an open-door policy for any management employee making the atmosphere very comfortable. I had noticed the talk about the small working spaces but in the other companies I worked in, who had many more employees, the space offered at Edaptive is just as measurable or a bit larger than those companies. As the company changes from a small business to a large- small business the wonderful leadership of the owners as well as the PMs has not changed and has made the work experience as great as it could be. Even walking in as an prospective employee, I was treated with such respect and I felt very important. I hope those who read these reviews do not base their likability of the company based on a review from 2014, because that was a large time ago.

Cons

There are some disgruntled employees that at times try to sway the opinion of the management that I could not agree with. I would ignore them and try to focus on the work and those who believe in building a positive work environment.

Pros

Working here allows a person to quickly pick up a base of development skills . This is a useful quick stop for new developers who are unsure of themselves and their value. In my opinion, software developers should always check their value in the market to make sure they aren't helping to push down rates at other development companies.

Cons

Young employees are paid extremely low wages. Younger employees do not realize their value and tend to work at Edaptive far longer than they need to in order to be qualified for much higher wages. A principal developer might be paid on par with what they made at other companies, but that does not make them experts on compensation at Edaptive. I received a very large raise when I left. The people who are hired on as principles or team leads might have a different experience as they may have known their value going in. That does not mean that Edaptive doesn't pay less than market for most employees compared to what they would be paid at another defense contractor. I too have worked at many companies and have an opinion that is just as valuable as someone calling other posters stupid. I don't think checking into the market and finding better opportunity is dumb, and I would encourage all employees of any company to go out and check their value at other employers before assuming someone getting paid twice what you are receiving is telling you the truth about compensation at Edaptive or elsewhere. If there are only a few people with good wages out of 50-60, they are outliers. Compensation aside, the work life balance was poor here too. I have worked a couple of years since being at Edaptive and have barely worked overtime at all. I regularly worked extra hours at Edaptive. I was also asked to do odd jobs at Edaptive that had nothing to do with software development. This put people in awkward situations where they were building desks during their lunches for a slice of pizza or two. That is something people do because they feel that if they won't, it might affect raises or how they are treated. Are team leads or principles asked to do this "side" work?? Not from what I witnessed. Not everyone is treated the same. There are a handful of people who are treated decently and appear to be paid enough to keep them around. Most of the development work is not done by these people but by people who typically leave after a year or two because of low pay and working conditions. These people who leave do not deserve to be called stupid merely because they have discovered reality...

Taking a job here was a bad idea

Pros

All my peers are great people to work with. They have free snacks and a nice kitchen. You can make up sick time, doctors, appointments, etc by working late a few days a week rather than using your vacation.

Cons

Attrition is VERY high. A year ago there were only 30 employees here. Now, a year later there are 50-something. That's quite a bit of growth but one thing you need to be aware of that should set off lots of alarms is 11 people left the company in the last year as well. So, if you figure an average of 40 employees over the last year and 11 of them have left that's an attrition rate of over 25%. Even if you use the current number of 50-something employees that's still an attrition rate of nearly 20%. Why are so many people leaving. It's simple: 1. Tiny desks situated in a large room. The setup is highly distracting and far below the standards developers expect at similar companies. Cubicles would help immensely. 2. Pay is below average. Most of the people that have left are receiving 20% or more compensation and better benefits. 3. Upper management tells you they want you to come to them with any problems but they will blow anything way out of proportion and basically tell you that you're an idiot for even the smallest suggestion if they disagree with your point of view. So, on the surface they tell you they want you to come to them to address issues but in reality unless you're masochistic you quickly learn that it's better to just keep your mouth shut and go look for another job if you're unhappy. That's what 20% of the employees have done so far. If things continue as they are currently I expect that ratio to increase or at least stay the same. 4. When a coworker does leave they, for some reason, are not allowed to tell anyone they're leaving so if you get stuck working on what they left behind you have no chance to ask them questions. This is highly inefficient and when friends leave without being able to say goodbye it hurts company morale.
