Terrible Culture

Pros

The company had impressive perks, including a beautiful cafeteria and atrium for large group meetings. There was never an issue about spending money on travel or anything else. Salary and benefit packages were very generous.

Cons

Systems were horrible at best. No two software systems worked together and none were intuitive. The same applied to procedures. Management attitude was to work evenings and weekends to compensate for the horrible systems rather than do anything at all to address them. Management culture was hyper-political, cut-throat and including many inexperienced managers who micromanaged as a reaction to intense pressure from higher-ups.

Pros

Edwards has the best Transcatheter Heart Valve products and deep product pipeline.

Cons

There’s no professional development in this division and part of the reason for that is that management does not have the time or desire to develop the talent they currently have. When positions become available they commonly seek from outside the company vs. promoting from within.

Pros

- Great product portfolio - Nice facilities

Cons

- Little to no focus on human capital - Strategy and execution is largely reactive - Little to no opportunities for career advancement; majority of new jobs are filled with external candidates instead of looking for talent in-house - Mid to senior management has little to no experience managing people. Most were individual contributors that rose through the ranks with little to no experience mentoring or managing staff - Benefits are subpar given size and success of company: ZERO maternity / paternity benefit, employee contribution for health benefits increases substantially every year, 401k matching that vests over a long period - Perfomance management is completely subjective; individual goals for the year are loaded in October (10 months into the year) and evaluated in December. Employee rating essentially depends on relationship with manager. - Generally, a highly political, low-trust environment where people are afraid to challenge the status quo
