Pros

Flexible PTO policy, but only if your manager is understanding

Cons

Rampant office politics create a hostile work environment in which creativity is stifled and colleagues regularly throw one another under the bus. Turnover is extremely high and while Egnyte recruits some talented people, the company does virtually nothing to keep them. Most new hires leave within a year or two. Executive management is cheap and has almost no desire to invest in employees, which is one reason office culture is nonexistent. (No 401K matching, low-budget, poorly-planned company events, overall penny-pinching even after raising $75M in Series E funding etc...) Vineet and his founding team are set in their ways, unwilling to question their antiquated assumptions about business operations, leadership and marketing strategy. Egnyte has the potential to be great, but until these dinosaurs pass the torch, little is likely to change.

Pros

Individual contributors are great people. Most enter Egnyte with a desire and passion to succeed. Nice kitchen, with drinks and snacks readily available. Free lunch twice a week.

Cons

Management changes focus frequently. It's as if they have never had a good direction to move to before, so keep shifting randomly. Very heavy politics. Another review called Egnyte a fraternity and that was spot on. Leaders fight against each other publicly and are competing to see who is the most important. Never keeping an eye on the ball. Turnover is like an epidemic. Very few have been with Egnyte for long. During interview, I suggest asking each person how long they have been employed there. Also a really heavy micromanagement culture.

Not a great place to work at

Pros

- Stumbled upon the right space at the right time. - the company has been fiscally responsible and spent a lot less money than competitors

Cons

- The CEO is killing his baby. He has a massive ego and will listen only to a few people. He sees everything in black and white. You're either in favor or you're out. He takes himself a bit too seriously, sometimes comically so: there was a phase when he appeared to consider himself a Steve Jobs. - Very high turnover at the exec and sr management levels directly attributable to the CEO and his arbitrary decision-making. I can't keep track of the number of former execs any more. It's not unusual for people to huff out of meetings with the CEO or resign on the spot. - Environment is very political. You're either in favor or you're left out. - Work is intense, but not in a fun way.
