Decent CPA firm

Pros

Eide Bailly is a decent CPA firm to work for. They care about their employees and want them to succeed. They offer training, good benefits and an okay salary. Eide Bailly sends new staff to training that is referred to as levels. There are four levels and are done on an annual basis. The locations of the level trainings are typically at their four largest offices (Fargo, Denver, Minneapolis, and Salt Lake City). The benefits are pretty good for the size - some of them are adoption assistance, health insurance, 10 holidays, matching contribution allowance, 8 weeks maternity leave (2 weeks paternity leave), 20 days of PTO (22 for managers or 10+ years), 4% retirement contribution, tuition reimbursement, volunteer time, and. wellness benefit. Overall, a good place to gain experience with a good company culture.

Cons

One of the biggest cons is a lack of an HSA plan or really a second option for health insurance. There is only one option for health insurance which seems silly for the size of the company. As with any public accounting firm, long hours can be expected during busy season.

Good co-workers, but AVOID the PIC.

Pros

Fellow Co-workers, pay for the area, PTO policy, wellness benefit

Cons

BE WARNED ABOUT THE MANAGEMENT: The PIC (partner-in-charge) of the office was the worst supervisor I have ever experienced and was one of the main factors that I left the firm. He is extremely condescending and rude. He will give you a project with little to no information and expect perfection from you. When you need to discuss something with him, it is near impossible to schedule any time to talk, since he is too busy (i.e. his calendar is booked all day a week ahead of time). However, he will then blame you for not meeting with him or emailing him (when he has specifically said don't email him because he gets too many). In addition, he will tell you to do something one way, and when its the wrong way or he made a mistake, he will place the blame solely on you. His criticisms are not productive, but instead said in a way to make you feel like you are incompetent. His leadership affects the morale of the staff members, as most feel the exact same way as stated above. He also doesn't spend the time to look at the workpapers and other items provided to him, and then will berate you for not doing something, even though you in fact did. In addition, the office's staffing levels is not being kept up with the growth and therefore everyone has to work more, negatively affecting work/life balance.
