Instead of laying off engineers, they could have offered temporary salary cuts or opportunities for reassignment within the company. Many sharp, knowledgeable test engineers were lost simply because they were viewed as a salary liability instead of an asset to the company. A good executive manager would have found a way to utilize our skill set within the company.
