      large heartless company. Worked for them for 30 years, doing great work, then suddenly let go along with 69 others.

      Pros

      Some great people have worked there and the industry can be rewarding.

      Cons

      The company is in total flux and change and has been since Datatel and SunGard Higher Education merged. Turnover and lay-offs are rampant in most parts of the organization. They have been systematically reducing staff levels since the merger to "lower the average age" of the company and therefore the salary burdens. They do not value individuals at all. They seem unable to right the sinking ship.

      Pros

      Got to meet and help so many colleges and universities. Learned a lot.

      Cons

      You get lost due to poor management. People are silo-ed so when the layoffs occur they don't really know who's the best to keep and let go. It's just, "well, get rid of this many people.".
