Pros

The clients are the only positive part

Cons

When you enter this field, you enter it because you want to change the lives of people with intellectual disabilities, striving to protect them by teaching them and enhancing their life. You are aware that you’re going to get paid a little less, and you just accept the fact, because the clients are worth the effort. Many of these clients would be on the street, homeless or abused without our help. With our help they can lead happy lives. Normally at a job each day you will show up and give all the effort you can to do the best for your clients. Normally you wish it grow in your job in position and salary as you get better at the job. But ... At Elwyn there is no room to grow in your job. Additionally you will never get so much as a cost of living raise but, they will give you more work than you will be able to accomplish and place blame whenever they can to justify never giving anyone more money. Each year they will pile on more work than you can handle. Holding the false promises of more money and a better future that lives just out of reach for everyone but Chuck McLister’s friends. Elwyn also does not care that you are given more work than you can finish. There is only more money for the 15 Vice Presidents and above to get a raise. The rest of us matter little, upper management as they view everyone as useless and disposable. Management’s response is if you don’t like it you should look for another job. Clients are only valued because they bring in money and b/c of the state constantly monitoring. It is sad to say that as an employees you are not valued by Elwyn unless you are a member of the union. Even then, Elwyn hates its employees. When you are a union member your pay start low and the union will get you a small amount of money every year. To add to that the quality of staff is lacking and most are unwilling to give more than little effort for the job at hand with a high turnover rate. There is no or incredibly horrible communication from management; unless they are giving out the job of another department that they just fired for your already overworked schedule. But it gets better, when your peers don’t do their job they will not be fired. Staff can skirt by for years with little effort and no repercussions. So you will have to do your job, the job of the 3 people they just fired and the work of your peers. When Snow is predicted you get threatening angry email from a Vice President telling you how worthless you are if you ever call out. Management often talks about the values of the company but those values do include the employees. Employees mater very little to Elwyn and that is sad. The only values to upper management is the value is to stealing food from the mouth of their employees and deny service for clients so they can get a better paycheck and bonuses. I recommend Elwyn if you want to not have any value for being an over worked employees. You will like Elwyn if you don’t want to grow in a career. If you want a job with no further. If you want to be paid less each year slowly watching your tiny salary struggle to pay your bills.

Pros

Co-workers and clients are the only reason senior staff are still here.

Cons

Upper management has no clue how to run this company. Show total disregard for the clients and staff. Clients are not the priority at this company anymore. Overtime needed in order to receive a decent paycheck.
