Pros

Everyone I've worked with is smart, hard working, and passionate about improving dogs' lives. Almost all are also pleasant to work with and respectful.

Cons

Even after some recent improvements to the scientist compensation scale, the pay is still below average, and there aren't a lot of opportunities for advancement as the company tends to hire externally rather than promote internally.

Thank you for your feedback, at Embark we conduct an annual compensation review to ensure fair and competitive pay. We have made adjustments this year to salaries that were not keeping pace with market for members of the Science and other teams. As always, our goal is to provide a great Total Rewards package with competitive health and wellness benefits, equity, unlimited time off, and more. If you have specific questions about your compensation, please connect with your manager or someone on the People Team and we’d be more than happy to discuss with you.

Great company but avoid marketing

Pros

Nearly every employee is smart, motivated by the mission, and excited by the challenge of working within a successful and rapidly scaling company. There's a rare combination of talent and low egos among most teams that makes it a pleasure to work with colleagues and enables a rapid pace of progress. New tech is incorporated often to support data-driven decision making, and there's generally an openness to discuss ideas. The company is growing quickly and beginning to truly transform its industry and it's exciting and rewarding to be a part of it.

Cons

Most of the positives listed above seem to be true everywhere except in marketing. The CMO seems politically motivated to make herself look good at the expense of her employees, and micromanages constantly to prevent team members (even lower level) from making their own decisions on even the smallest things. She continually changes expectations or requirements to keep people off balance, and no one has the ability to do anything without permission but are too afraid to ask. You're often blind sided by negative feedback or changes in responsibility that was never told to you directly. There is a fear culture that's been growing for a long time due to the CMO and many people are preparing to leave instead of continuing to wait for the management team to recognize a change needs to be made at the top.
