Not For Me

Pros

If you love dogs, you'll find the work can be quite fun and interesting. My teammates were wonderful. I loved the idea of the company and the product and the promise of what it could do someday for pets.

Cons

Leadership promoted a negative team culture , direction was often unclear, and we were micromanaged. While my teammates and I were working incredibly hard, the focus was on everything we weren't doing right vs. being applauded for the things we were doing well. One or two were the clear favorites, and they could do no wrong, the rest were treated as if we had no value. People were often unhappy and burning out, but no one senior was noticing and providing assistance.

Pros

It's a fast-paced start-up culture and the work is interesting. I believe that the founders care about the mission and the want the company to be a good place to work. There are lots of smart, hard working people driving business forward.

Cons

Our department head is difficult to work for and the environment can be toxic. Feedback is provided, but we don't see change, so team morale continues to get worse. Workload is very heavy at times and requires a lot of long hours.

Pros

You can tell right away that they genuinely care about their employees, tons of great benefits (Summer Fridays, open PTO, half days, etc.). It's rare for a tech-based startup to be so invested in avoiding burnout and "hustle culture" but Embark truly goes above and beyond.

Cons

The one thing I can think of is that each department is kind of isolated, they do try to promote company-wide activities and stuff, but on a day to day basis you don't really ever interact with anyone outside of your direct team in my experience
