EmblemHealth Was A Nightmare

Pros

The company has an on site gym and offers discounted lunch coupons to area restaurants.

Cons

EmblemHealth was a nightmare. I quit after a year and within a couple weeks, I had a great new job offer. EH did not verify my employment for more than a month for this new company! I reminded them several times. The most uncooperative, incompetent and lazy people work there. Here's why I quit: The morale across the company was very low and I soon found out why. I had to handle the job requirements of two people from day 1 as the coworker who was supposed to train me went on maternity leave just before I joined. Management had plenty of time to get her replacement but never bothered to get one. I had to learn the work and then handle ALL her projects and mine. IT, Compliance, Sales, Legal and Marketing, none of these biz owners eased their deadlines. Plus, the winter storms made my commute 3+ hours daily but my director was never ok with me working remotely, even on days I had no meetings. She herself lived just 20 minutes away. I felt completely exploited, disgusting experience! In spite of these circumstances, I delivered my projects on time, created several enhancements for our department and received praise from from IT, Business Continuity, Compliance, Medicaid and the Project Management Office. The cherry on the top was when I received a mid-year review full of glaring factual inaccuracies. One example, I had given 10+ ideas to fulfill my goal of "innovation" but the review said I had not EVEN STARTED this goal! When I brought the errors to the director's attention, instead of apologizing, I was asked me to sign the review. They said it was only the year end review that actually mattered. Such arrogance and incompetence! I had to make a detailed rebuttal with the HR. Btw, HR was also in the pocket of the management and did nothing. Senior management frequently clashes with each other. Some VPs have not spoken with each other in years. No promotions are offered. Projects are created based on political connections, not on the merit of the idea. Projects are given to you at the 11th hour. This place is a zoo.

Pros

Benefits Gym Traditional 9-5 Telecommuting if approved Flexible work life balance depending on dept and boss

Cons

People are quick to throw you under the bus whether in your own team or not The amount of ppl that have been there 15+ years is a great amount. This can be good and bad because most are stuck in their ways and the ways of their work.theyre resistant to change or new ways and ideas and feel easily threatened by change or anyone new. Promotions don't come often enough. High turnover and employees don't feel that appreciated.
