Pros

- You cannot get fired for performance, only during market downturns - Work life balance is great. A lot of people get away with ~30 hours a week no problem - Great place to enter from outside as they will pay initial market rate. But don't stay longer than 3-4 years

Cons

- No overall strategy means every 3-4 months your priorities shift. You'll never get any projects completed, so your performance will always look mediocre - Extremely political. There are chosen ones, and there is no way to break into that fold unless someone high level retires - Extreme nepotism, getting worse during downturn - Internal promotion process is terrible. You will not get anything more than 6-9% for job promotion, and yearly will always be less than 3% - Extremely fat layer of management, a lot of people in offices that won't ever be going anywhere any time soon. Expect a barrier to promotion - Aging work force, they do a terrible job of cleaning house in the older groups and they churn through the younger work force. First ones laid off are the young ones, which is only making the age gap worse - Pension was pulled in 2015, and new 401k match is not very good. No reason to retire here

Pros

The company allows you the freedom to make the most of yourself while you're in a said position. You can either be highly productive and achieve a high amount of output, or you can be mediocre and simply show up everyday. It is left up to the employee.

Cons

The pay is competitive to start, but unfortunately pay and performance are not related. At Emerson, you can be a highly productive individual and you will receive the same raise (2%) as an individual who is not with the same title and responsibilities. You are not rewarded for your performance with pay.

Pros

The company treats its shareholders and management very well. The company is known for its increasing dividends over the past 50 years. Shareholders like Emerson for its generous dividends. The company's senior management enjoys good stock options.

Cons

No commitment to employees and customers. The company's culture is extremely anti-family and does not allow spouse to work in the same company. The company does not even have a purpose or mission statement. The company's senior management enjoys long vacations but frowns on analysts taking any vacations. The company does not commit to customers. Rather, the management tries to take advantage of customers in order to earn the highest profit.
