Pros

Salary, medical benefits, PTO, cafeteria, nice coworkers many have been here since hospital opened

Cons

Hired DEI consulting firm in midst of pandemic when hours cut, redployment of staff and morale low. more and more hires into DEI positions who send incessant emails about diversity, LGBTQIA+. White coats for black lives encouraging all staff to take a knee after George Floyd... so ironic. I also received liberal-leaning political emails after the Capitol riot, Atlanta spa shootings, we had an email supporting AAPI even tho there's no evidence it was racially motivated which was followed the next week by a "We Belong Here" asian posters and vigil in the cafeteria lobby. The very next week when the Jihadist shooter killed 10 white people at the grocery store ...not one peep. I 've worked at EJCH since 2009 and it's been a very wonderfully diverse workforce from lower level to highest level administrators and we don't have problems in this area but now they want to virtue signal from the Ivory Tower to alleviate themselves of their white guilt. They had a meeting on unconscious bias. Beware of working for any employer that would require you to take implicit association test. I fear it will be coming to Emory in relatively near future. Emergency med dept page has entire section devoted to DEI which recommends such racist readings as "White Fragility" and "how to be an antiracist". Can we please just stick to our jobs??? Oh and now they announced experimental COVID vax will be requirement after FDA approval . APPs in ER have to take call 24 hrs every two weeks which they tell us is lumped into our salary with extra compensation for callback...don't usually get called in unless someone calls out.

Pros

Comprehensive and competitive benefits, flexible schedule

Cons

*Disclaimer: I worked in only one department in Emory, so I am only speaking for that one department. I hope all departments are not as terrible as the department I was employed at.* Where do I start? First, poor management from the top down - very hands off leadership. Mid level leadership was treated as the scapegoat. Upper management did not listen to staff concerns and take them seriously. Disorganized and chaotic with unclear expectations, especially with a brand new work flow in place for the nurses. PTO/holidays/sick time is all one bucket, so PTO can go very fast. Physicians are not held accountable to respond in a timely manner which makes it challenging for nursing to help patients and do their jobs when physician input is needed. Some physicians/APPs are completely disrespectful to staff. Before you accept a job with Emory, I encourage you to ask questions regarding the culture of the department and perhaps even ask for a "working interview" to see for yourself if that is a department you want to work in. This was the worst job I have had in my career to date. Please, do yourself a favor and do your research before accepting a job with this company. Also, pay was low compared to other area competitors.
