Pros

If you really enjoy your job this is a good place to work. The benefits are great, the learning environment is great. It is located in a nice area. And there are plenty of opportunities to advance throughout the university.

Cons

Even though it is a private university there is still a lot of bureaucracy, which stifles the working environment. This is allows for more political decisions rather than decisions that are made in the best interest of the mission and goals of the department and/or university. Also, It seems teleworking and other work-life benefits are only allowed for a select few.

Pros

Interesting research and feeling like you are contributing to society.

Cons

Emory is still very much an "old boys' club" with completely different benefits and status for non-professor professionals. Low pay, extremely political and not a good place for working mothers. Emory offers no paid leave for regular employees. You can apply for short term disability but if you have any underlying medical conditions you will be turned down.
