Pros

The university as a whole is a great place to work, provided you work in a good department.

Cons

Poor departmental management. The department I worked in seemed to promote on favoritism not productivity, efficiency or talent.

Pros

Great community, benefits and students!

Cons

You have to know someone in order to progress professionally. Positions are filled without being announced to employees. Good old boy/girl network in the extreme.

Pros

Interesting research and feeling like you are contributing to society.

Cons

Emory is still very much an "old boys' club" with completely different benefits and status for non-professor professionals. Low pay, extremely political and not a good place for working mothers. Emory offers no paid leave for regular employees. You can apply for short term disability but if you have any underlying medical conditions you will be turned down.
