Sometimes it feels like a start up playing corporate, new processes are being invented every so often, and either poorly documented or poorly referenced and notified to people who need them. Interactions between teams can we painful some times, but nothing as bad as what I’ve seen in big tech.
There also seems to be some tech debt on the stability of the local developing environment, I’ve never in my 9+ years of experience have seen such a non-deterministic set up process. Some bugs are literally resolved by “RUN THE F THING AGAIN UNTIL IT WORKS”. Excuse my French but WTF? WDYM just run it N times until it works? Will it work on the 4th or 14th try? Nobody knows.
For engineering at least in Costa Rica we’re forced to go to the office at least once a week. Which I know is fine for today’s standards but to me the idea of going just for the sake of going because some C says we must is idiotic. I literally waste 3 hours of my day every time I go to the office. No one in my team or that I work with is in there, so I literally just go to contribute to traffic jams and my own stress and routine disruption. I’d prefer to work 1 or 2 hours more per day from my house than this.
I’d give you guys a 5 star in work/life balance if I didn’t know for a fact my manager doesn’t give a single F if I work from home or the office and we’re just being forced to roll with it.
And if I can be super picky, not getting stocks is kind of a bummer, I know they offer equity, but equity doesn’t really matter until and if they go public. Don’t try to sell me on equity, most people won’t be here to enjoy it when and if it happens.
